Wireless Handheld Support to Optix Repositories Office
Palm™ VII users can now search Optix document repositories and easily fax or email documents anywhere in either native or PDF formats
January 1, 2001 – Support for wireless access to document repositories managed by their Optix® Document Management and Workflow systems have been announced. Palm™VII and other Palm OS based wireless users can now search for documents stored in any web-accessible Optix system. Selected documents can be faxed or emailed anywhere in either native or PDF formats. Multipage scanned documents are automatically converted to PDF, allowing viewing and printing by any recipient.
The new wireless support integrates seamlessly with any existing Optix 6 installation. Delivered as a "ready-to-run" server add-on appliance, deployment requires only minutes. Pre-configured at the factory before shipping, the appliance is simply connected to a network, an outgoing fax-line, and powered up. Documents stored in the Optix 6 repository can then be made available to mobile users. All levels of Optix security remain in force, ensuring that documents are accessible only to selected authorized users.
"This is a great sales force tool", stated Greg Cook, VP of Customer Services for mindwrap. "Sales Reps can now travel light and have product brochures, company information, and expense sheets at their fingertips anytime, anywhere".
Using Optix tools, administrators can easily create custom repositories tailored specifically for wireless users, specifying "quick-search" categories that appear as pull-down lists in the Palm OS-based Optix application. This reduces or eliminates the need for time-consuming data entry when performing searches from handheld devices.
Files may be emailed in their native format or converted to PDF as needed. Even high-resolution scanned color documents are easily e-mailed to any recipient. This allows new information such as product brochures to be rapidly and economically deployed for use by all mobile personnel without having to wait for costly and often time-consuming printing and shipping.
